Song of the Week

Hey Guys!

This week, I rediscovered a band I used to love, Candlemass. For their return into my Metal Life, I give them the Song of the week, with 'Prophet', from their album Psalms for the Dead (2012).

On that topic, am I the only who think it's kinda weird that Psalms for the Dead is their final album, but they still stay together? I don't see the point of keeping a music group together if it doesn't produce anything more. They are gonna live on their last success?

I've always thought art should be productive, in the sense of creative and innovative.

Anyway, I like their 'final' album!

Enjoy!!

You're Watching Over Me - Rest in Peace Domi!

Hey guys,

I've been better. Yesterday, I learned a friend of mine died during her holidays in Nepal. She was doing a trekking trip, slipped, and fell into the river. She died there. 30 years old. Damnit.

Metal music is always there for me, at any moments. Here is a song for Domi.

Sorry for the sad post. It's important.

Enjoy Life Guys, like Domi did.

Cheers.

Song of the Week

Hey Guys!

Here is a song I've been listening a lot lately. I discovered Morgoth only few weeks ago, and I think the word 'Epic' describe them perfectly. Under the Surface is definitely the song I prefer, for the moment.

So here you go! Enjoy!!

Concert Review - Goblin and Liquid Meat at Kyeso, 18.10.2013

Good morning!

I went to a concert last night, Friday the 18.10.2013. It took place at Kyeso, at Candidplatz (I'll probably make a post only about the place). Two bands played: Goblin and Liquid Meat.

I really enjoyed Goblin! I would say they are between Heavy and Trash. The singer's voice is so great! My friend told me its reminded him of Rob Zombie's voice. I personally find Goblin's singer's voice a little bit more...how to say...harder? Anyway, I like it. They have awesome songs. I don't find them particularly original, but their songs are good, and the music makes sense. I mean, the instruments and the voice fit together. It has a harmony.

Something that was bad was the sound. There was no sound engineer there, or someone to make sure everything sounded right. The drum was way too loud! My friend also found the bass too present, but I didn't. Guys are supposably more sensitive to low frequencies, it might explain our different perception! Anyway, I think it would have been better with a more lower drum and a louder electric guitar.

The second band, the main one, was Liquid Meat. I was very excited, because they are running for 10 years now (which should say they should be good, at some point), and they even played in Wacken Open Air last year, in 2012.

I was very disappointed. They are not bad, they are just boring. It is more a rock band than metal. I would say light heavy metal. They have nothing special, or new. You can find dozens of bands like them, everywhere. And the bass with them was really wayyy too loud. I felt the bassist was an attention whore, who wanted to have some recognition. And the singer's voice (Rocker Freddy Mack) is nothing special. It's a boring band, to my honest opinion. We left before the end, to finish the night at Raw.

I am glad the concert was free, I would have been so pissed off to have paid for this! Even though Goblin was good. But still.

Anyway, keep an eye opened for Goblin, and you can pass your turn for Liquid Meat. Not impressed. At all.

Cheers!

Song of the Week

Hey Guys!

This week, the song is a Classic among the Classics. I've been listening to Iron Maiden a lot this week, because I had rough times at work. In these stressful moments, Bruce's voice comforts my soul. I sometime choose more trash songs, but not this week. Fear of the Dark was definitely a cure to my stress and angriness!

Enjoy!

Smoke the Sky - Heavy Metal

Hey Guys!

What's up?

If I say "Smoke the Sky", what's the first coming in your mind? The song of Mötley Crue, right? First thing I thought of too. But in Munich, "Smoke the Sky" is also a Metal band. A very good Band I should say. They are running for few years now, but I discovered them  couple of weeks ago. And I like them. They are on the Hard Rock\Heavy Metal side. They are just awesome. The kind of awesome that you cannot stop listen to. And if you do, their songs are gonna get stuck in your head for days because they have so catchy rhythms.

I wanted to see them in concert, 2 weeks ago. They played during "Die lange Nacht der Musik in Moosach". Unfortunately, I missed them. I am now on the hunt for their next gig.

Their album "Leave this World loud" is terrific. Here is my favorite song on the CD.

You should visit their Facebook Page, and give them a big thumbs up.

Song of the Week

Hey Guys!

Here is the song I've been listening to all week long. Every. single. Morning. and. Evening.

I know I am sooo late to appreciate this album, but I've had some difficulties to accept Stu Block as the new signer of Iced Earth since the last two years. I am a HUGE fan of Matt Barlow. His voice has something very special that raises the hair all over my body. When he left, I just stopped following Iced Earth. I'm childish, I know.

I finally decided to give Dystopia a try. And I liked it. Nop, I loved it. The sound is heavier than the previous albums of the band, and Stu's voice fits awesome with the new sound. My ears still bleed when I listen to a concert when Stu sings 'Melancholy' or 'Watching over me' (Because these song are Matt's songs, you know). But still, I accept him now. And Dystopia. I love every single songs on this album. With a preference for Anthem.

So yeah, enjoy!

Cheers! \m/

Saeculum Obscurum - Black Metal

Servus!

Here is the first band I'm gonna introduce to you. I discovered them few weeks ago, at the release Party of their second CD "Apotheosis". I am not the biggest fan of Black Metal, so I didn't know what to expect, neither if I would even enjoy it. But I did.

Saeculum Obscurum has already released two CD: Into the Depths of Oblivion, in 2011, and Apotheosis, in 2013. The first one is way more melodic. Apotheosis, on the other side, is heavier. I guess it goes with the topic of the album, which let suppose atrocity (as they say themselves on their website) and pain.

I like their style. I don't feel it is some sort of very heavy and gore Black Metal, which I have some difficulties with. They have this melodic sound that make their music more accessible for people who don't necessarily like Black Metal at the first sight. And Black Metal fans should like it as well, because they still have this aggressivity, very present in extreme music.

I've never seen them in concert, but I'll try to attend one of their performances. I'll let you know!

Moreover, I've talked with the singer, Omnicron, and it's always nice to see that the members of a band are not stupid assholes. He was so nice and funny! Great moment!

They are my first step into Black Metal. I want more!

For the pleasure of your ears, here are two songs, one from each album. I do think the first one, Interludium, is a Masterpiece, and should be known. The harmony is AM-A-ZING!! (It's an instrumental song)

And from their new album:

Here is their website, if you wanna learn more about them!

First Post of a big Journey

Hey Guys!

What's up?

So here it is, the first post of my Baby Blog. I moved to Munich in 2012, and I've struggled a bit the first months finding the Metal Scene. The Scene here is small. Strong, but small. So I've decided to start this journey, to jump in this hidden but powerful world that is the Local Metal Scene of Munich, and to let you know about it.

Here are some information about me, so you can have an idea of what may come next. Or what may not come.

Who am I?

1- I am a  French-Canadian. I write in English. I make mistakes. Deal with it. Although I do write in English, if you are German and you see me somewhere, please come say Hi! in German. It's always a pleasure to talk Goethe's language!

2- I am a Metal Lover. I love it, in its entirety. Heavy, Trash, Death, Power, Black. I don't discriminate. I don't really like our recent need to label and categorize everything. I enjoy the fact that bands experiment and create or define new sub-genres, but these labels we create still stay words. Words are not always accurate to describe Music, since Music is there to feel, not to rationalize. You might say this song is so "Melodic Progressive post-Groove Death", and you're probably right, I don't care. If I feel it Death, I'm gonna say Death. End of the Story.

Who am I NOT?

1-I am not a musician. I don't know all the technical words to describe a tempo or a rhythm. I can't make a difference between the sound of two brands of guitar. I'm just a Fan of what others play.

2-I'm not a specialist. I don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of Metal, like some people do. If I write a review, I might write comparisons with things I know, but I won't talk about the very specific sound of this demo album from this band nobody knows from 1984. If you do, tell me, I wanna learn and discover.

3- I'm not a hater. I'm not here to bash. I'm here to enjoy. If I come across a band I don't like, I won't write about it. Bands work their ass off to produce something they like, something that represent who they are. Who am I to arrive and say what they do is shit? I respect who they are and what they do despite the fact their music is maybe not my style. I might not like it, but you, you can love it. I am here to support my Scene, not to destroy it.

Don't hesitate to share bands from your own local Scene in the comments, or tell me what you think!

To start beautifully, here is a cheesy Metal song. Because I like cheesy stuff.
