Metalhead in Munich: John The Fisherman - Primus Tribute Band

John The Fisherman - Primus Tribute Band

Servus Metalheads!

Which kind of music were you listening to years ago? Your tastes have probably evolved or have maybe totally changed. But do you still listen to what used to be your favorites bands? Or are they lost in the Whirlpool of the Past?

I used to listen a lot to Primus during my College years. With time, I discovered other bands, and I happily jumped into this dark world that is Metal Music. My music became heavier and louder, and Primus gradually lost is privileged place. The last time I recall listening to them was in 2008, when I saw them live (awesome gig by the way!). And then nothing. Until recently.

I attended a concert at 8Below where one of the band was a Primus Tribute Band. I couldn't miss it. I was a bit skeptical though, because Tribute Bands can easily destroy the hopes you have by messing up the music. Even if they are good, it's very easy to criticize them. Some can say they just copy the original band without adapting the music to their own style, others will cry because they adapt it too much. My expectations were high, and I wasn't disappointed.

I was impressed when I heard John the Fisherman. The actual band, not the song. They get it, they just get it. They deliver what you're excepting: Primus' Awesomeness. The singer wears a mask, which I'm not even sure what it represents. A dog maybe? It would fit with "So many Puppies". I'm not sure, but it fits with Primus's spirit. And he moves in a way that just goes with the music. And the music! The guys are terrific! The bass line is solid, I mean SO-LID! The solos are top notch. Great job for the guitar. Everything served with energy. These guys love what they do, they show it and you feel it. They honor Primus, and they do it well.

Gigantic Nostalgia Rush. It was so good to hear these songs again. Thanks for the great memories!

If you're a Primus fan, check them out!

Cheers!
