Metalhead in Munich: Revolution Contest 2014

Revolution Contest 2014

Servus Metalheads!

I hope you're doing well!

8 local bands coming from Rock and Metal backgrounds compete against each other in order to win different prices: money, gift cards and place for other concerts. Three judges give them points based on a 20 minutes performance.

How cool is that? This is what the Revolution Contest is, and I am very glad I attended it this year. It's a contest organized by BB Events that took place on Saturday, March 22nd in Rosenheim. 5€ for 9 bands, that's what I call a great deal.

I discovered great local bands, met interesting people and had a lot of fun! I just want to give a brief description of each band that played, because I want to write a fuller opinion post for some of them.

First band: Stereobugs. These guys have an interesting mix of music genres. They incorporate elements from alternative Rock, Punk and Metal. I heard some growlings at some point, it makes me happy! The music is very enthusiastic, you may listen to them if you want to dance and to move. They have a lot of energy! Here is their Facebook page, check them out!

Second band: Birdcrust. We are still in the Rock category, without the Metal elements from Stereobugs.   They explode more the Punk side of their music. Once again, energetic sound, no aggressivity what so ever. This is a music that makes you happy. They really make me think of some '90s bands I used to listened to when I was a teenager. Plus they had the style to go with it: The 3 guys were wearing caps backwards. This was a massive time travel! I like them, visit their Facebook page to discover the band!

Third band: Gilgamesh! I was so excited to see them, I've heard great things about them without having the opportunity to confirm these great things. The fact that they play a blackened Death Metal is helping them to reach my Little Black Heart. They only played 20 minutes, but so far, I really like their riffs. It's a powerful BAM! right into your face. They also have a terrific presence on stage. Their costumes, kind of a Barbarian/Caveman ish style, add something nice to their performance. I really want to dig into their music and I plan to write a full post on them. For the moment, go give them a huge Thumbs up on Facebook and have fun!

Fourth band: Human Shadows. I am gonna have difficulties to describe their sound. I am listening to a video of them right now to help me, but still. I think some people would say they are Metal, but I disagree a bit. They certainly have a metal vibe, but the rock influences are too strong, to my opinion, to entirely place them into the "Metal Category". They did a very good performance, and I enjoyed the vocals! Give them a try!

Fifth band: Amplified Memory. These guys are a nice discovery! I love what they do! They describe their music as a Melodic Death-metal, and it is totally it. The fact that they have a keyboard player helps to reach a melodic sound. I really appreciated how they sometimes play a soft and melodious passage to attack you right after with a raw and brutal Death Metal sound. They flirt with this soft/hard boarder. I'm also gonna give a big thumbs up to the vocals, which were pretty impressive. Do like I do, like their Facebook Page and hunt down their next Gig!

Sixth band: Sneakers. It was nice to have a small break between two harder bands! Sneaker plays a grunge/rock music. I've read that they have influences from traditional Bavarian music. You'll excuse my total lack of knowledge about it, since I am a complete outsider. Good guitar rhythms, good harmony between the different instruments, they have a dynamic tempo. They are the kind of band you would imagine playing at your prom party, if it makes any sense. Check them out!

Seventh band: Sins of a Murder. I wanted to see them so bad! I've heard of them many times while talking with friends. First, they all wear shirts and ties. We all love guys wearing shirts and ties, right? Well, I do. First impression: Epic Success! And then? Well, they just play a freaking awesome brutal death metal. You know, this kind of metal where you have to headbang? Yes, this kind of Death metal! The proof they are awesome? They had the first mush-pit of the night. 20 minutes was definitely not enough for me, I do want to see them again. When I'll know their music better, I am gonna write a full post on them. Because their Death Metal is striking and solid. They do deserve your Support Here!

Eighth band: Apprehension. The last band to compete gave us an alternative and pleasant Rock. For the Metal Fans, it was a great way to calm down a bit before the Special Guest. They closed pretty well the Contest, going, to my opinion, in the same music direction as the first band, Stereobugs.  They are not  the kind of music of usually listen to, but you should give them a try, especially if you are a Rock Lover! (I haven't found their Facebook Page yet. Am I that stupid? As soon as I find it, I link it here!)

Special Guest: Combustion. I wanted to see these guys for so long! I won't talk a lot about them, because my next post is featuring them. I am gonna say this: Fucking Terrific Epic Violent Death Metal. This band is Pure Brutal Love. I simply love them. Their music makes me want to take a chair and just violently destroy it against the wall. Here is their Facebook Page, you NEED to check them out. And stay tuned for the next post about them!

After this marathon of Music, the jury announced the winners, who are:
3rd - Humans Shadows
2nd - Sins of a Murder
1st - Gilgamesh

Congrats to everyone, you were all awesome!

I also wanna give a big thumbs up to Gilgamesh for the organization of the Metal bus, that made my life way easier, and to the people who made the Chili, which allowed me not to die of Hunger during the night. It was delicious!
I took a bunch a pictures with a friend's camera but it was my first attempt at doing something that looks "professional". Except a couple of good shots, I need practice ^.^

See ya Soon, Metalheads!

Stay Heavy! \m/
