Devildriver + Sylosis + Bleed from Within Concert Review - 31.03.2014

Hi Metalheads!

I have been waiting for this gig for so long! I know Devildriver for many years now, but I never had the chance to see them live. Bad timing. So Monday Night was the Night.

Devildriver is currently hitting the European roads as part of their almost Worldwide tour for their Album "Winter Kills", which was released in August 2013. I really don't know how I've managed it, but I've kinda missed this album. I've learned about it almost 3 months after the release. I know, I know, Shame on me! Hopefully, attending this gig has washed away this sin.

As Special Guests, Bleed from Within and Sylosis. I've heard the name of Sylosis before, but I came in the bar without really knowing them. And Bleed from Within was a total discovery. The styles of both bands go pretty well with Devildriver, and they warmed us up perfectly for the main concert.

Bleed from Within

I've already said somewhere on this blog that the first band is always a little awkward. The room is usually not as full as it should be, people are maybe not in the mood yet, or they are all ordering beers. Well, Bleed from Within did a terrific job as first part! I was impressed by the energy of the crowd as soon as the first band. The guys have a lot of energy to give and I like how they interact with the public. The band is from Glasgow, to be honest, the singer, Scott, has a pretty cute accent. I can't help myself!
About the music itself, thumbs up! I would say they have a groove/death/core sound. Scott (because using the last name is too impersonal) shifts from screaming to growling to clearer lyrics. For this reason, I find his voice impressive! Sinister and dark riffs are played on a medium tempo. I've found their music pretty energetic. They didn't play so long, maybe 30 minutes? It also might be that I've totally lost perception of Time, but it seemed short to me. You can visit their MySpace to learn more about them.
Great job Guys!! \m/

Sylosis

Like I said, I've heard their name before, but I actually never really checked them out, so I didn't know what to expect. They are in the same veins as Bleed from Within, a Trash/Melodic Death Metal. They are less core than Bleed from Within to my opinion, which I like. I'm not a big core fan in general. Once again, a good choice for a first part of Devildriver. Gigantic amount of energy, great performance on stage. They also played for a short amount of time, 30-40 minutes I would say.
Once back home, I've listened to their last album, "Monolith", which was released in 2012. I enjoy it! I especially like the guitar and the vocals. I've read a bunch of comments on the Net, and people seem to say that their style has changed a bit in comparison to their previous albums. I'm gonna deepen this, I'm very interested by the band. Here is their website, if you want to give them a try!

Devildriver

Here come the Titans. With the two first bands who gave a pretty good performance, the crowd was ready for some more serious stuff. I felt everyone so febrile and excited. The moment they started to play, the crowd exploded. An almost permanent mosh-it took place in front of the stage. People also made a Wall of Death. I've never seen a Wall of Death in Backstage! This was crazy!
The guys were simply awesome! The show was powerful and overwhelming. They are so good live! These guys are good at what they're doing, and they know exactly how to perform on stage. And Dez Fafara is so freaking charismatic! I could not take my eyes away from him. Only to headbang actually. I don't know what to say except that it was a crazy ass gig. If you get the chance to see them, don't wait and buy your ticket now. And go buy their new album at the same time.

The gig was on a Monday, and this was the best Monday I've had in a long time. I'm so glad I attended this gig. Horns up!

Cheers Metalheads! \m/
